The First and Only FDA-approved Injectable Treatment for “Double Chin”
What is Kybella™?
Kybella™ (deoxycholic acid) injection is the first and only FDA-approved prescription nonsurgical treatment that is used in adults to improve the appearance and profile of moderate to severe fat below the chin (submental fat), also called, “double chin.” It is not known if Kybella™is safe and effective in children less than 18 years of age. It is not known if Kybella™is safe and effective for use outside of the submental area.
About 70% of people were bothered by the chin area or the fat under their chin,” said Dr. Scott Gerrish. “And that can be from genetics, it can be overweight, it can be aging. And this is the only treatment that can be non-surgical.”
Kybella™ is an FDA-approved injectable of deoxycholic acid that can contour the chin area. Dr. Gerrish says the acid is found naturally in the body and when concentrated in an injection to the chin, it destroys the fat cells.
Dr. Gerrish will design a customized treatment plan to help you improve your chin profile. Many patients experience visible contouring of their chin profile in two to four treatment sessions spaced at least one month apart. Up to 6 treatments may be administered.
How Kybella Works
DIMINISH THE DOUBLE CHIN
WITH A TREATMENT TAILORED*TO YOU.
KYBELLA® is administered as a series of injections to the treatment area under the chin, destroying fat cells and producing gradual results. Everyone’s chin profile is different, so your physician will tailor*treatment to you. The number of treatment sessions will vary based on the amount of fat under the chin and your treatment goals.
The active ingredient in Kybella™ is deoxycholic acid, a naturally occurring molecule in the body that aids in the breakdown and absorption of dietary fat. When injected into the fat beneath your chin, Kybella™causes the destruction of fat cells. Once destroyed, those cells cannot store or accumulate fat.
Kybella FAQs
Kybella
KYBELLA® can cause serious side effects, including injection site problems such as bruising, hair loss, open sores (ulcers), and damage and tissue cell-death (necrosis) around the injection site or trouble swallowing and nerve injury in the jaw that can temporarily cause an uneven smile or facial muscle weakness. In clinical studies, nerve injury in the jaw resolved on its own in a median of 44 days (range of 1 to 298 days), and trouble swallowing resolved on its own in a median of 3 days (range of 1 to 81 days).
The most common side effects are swelling, bruising, pain, numbness, redness, and areas of hardness around the treatment area. These are not all of the possible side effects of KYBELLA®. Call your healthcare provider if you develop open sores or drainage from the treatment area or for medical advice about side effects.
Submental fullness is a gathering of excess fat beneath the chin, commonly known as “double chin.” It can be something you’ve had your whole life due to genetics or start to appear as you get older or if you gain weight.
Kybella is a non-surgical solution to the double chin. Kybella is used specifically to treat small fat pockets without plastic surgery but with injections instead. With limited downtime and almost no pain – Kybella allows you to return to your regular life instantly.
Liposuction is an invasive surgical procedure that does have some additional risks since you are going under anesthesia. Recovery time is longer than Kybella injections and can leave a small scar in the treated area.
Kybella is approved by the FDA to improve the look and profile of submental fullness caused by submental fat. What’s that you ask? Submental describes the area underneath the chin. The fullness (fat) in this area is historically referred to as a double chin. Treatment of the double chin using Kybella has seen excellent results without the surgical intervention of liposuction.
Kybella, an injectable medication approved by the FDA, is used to remove fat in the area underneath the chin. Gerrish MedEsthetics is pleased to offer this treatment with our expertly trained staff.
